Accutane - Isotretinoin General Information
Isotretinoin, commonly known as Accutane, is essentially a form of vitamin A. It functions by reducing the production of oil from the skin's glands and accelerates the renewal of skin cells.
Accutane is primarily prescribed to treat severe nodular acne, often as a last resort when other treatments have proven ineffective. Isotretinoin can also be effective in addressing various other skin conditions when recommended by a medical professional. However, it is typically not prescribed for women of childbearing age unless alternative acne treatments have been unsuccessful.
This medication should not be used during pregnancy, as it has been associated with fertility issues and an increased risk of birth defects. The appropriate dosage is determined based on your body weight, usually ranging from 1 to 5 mg per kilogram of body weight, divided into two daily doses.
