Arimidex  belongs to a category and class of drugs known as aromatase inhibitors (AIs). Aromatase inhibitors belong to an even broader class of drugs known as  anti-estrogens. The other subcategory of drugs under the anti-estrogen category is known as selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), such as Nolvadex and  Clomid.

AIs and SERMs make up anti-estrogens. Aromatase inhibitors differ greatly from SERMs in their action and how they deal with the issues of estrogen control. The misunderstanding that SERMs, such as Nolvadex and Clomid, serve to lower estrogen levels must first be addressed. This is a persistent rumor among the anabolic steroid-using community that has begun to erode as of late, but the rumor still persists.

SERMs serve to block the action of Estrogen at the receptor sites in breast tissue by occupying the receptor sites in place of Estrogen so that Estrogen itself cannot exert its effects there through receptor site binding.

Conversely, SERMs will also act as estrogen at receptor sites at other cells in other areas of the body (the liver, for example in Nolvadex’s case). SERMs do not lower circulating levels of Estrogen in blood plasma. Aromatase inhibitors serve to do this by eliminating the production of Estrogen by binding to and disabling the aromatase enzyme, which is the enzyme responsible for the conversion (or aromatization) of androgens into Estrogen.

Anastrozole (Arimidex) Usage

Usage: 0.5-1 mg/day

Anastrozole (Arimidex) General Information

Arimidex is a medication classified as an aromatase inhibitor and is available in tablet form, containing Anastrozole as the active ingredient. The primary purpose of using Arimidex is to prevent the onset of symptoms associated with gynecomastia, fluid retention, and other estrogen-related adverse reactions that may occur during and after a cycle of anabolic drugs.

Anastrozole (Arimidex) Benefits

Arimidex has become widely popular among athletes using anabolic steroids to enhance their physique. Many synthetic testosterone-based drugs can lead to negative reactions due to their high aromatization, resulting in issues like gynecomastia, excessive swelling, and fluid retention in muscle tissues. Anastrozole, the active ingredient in Arimidex, addresses and prevents these symptoms during the steroid cycle.

This aromatase inhibitor enhances muscle definition and minimizes setbacks by counteracting the negative effects of estrogen and reducing swelling. The drug's action can significantly increase the concentration of anabolic hormones in the body. Studies indicate that at a dosage of 0.5-1 mg, Anastrozole can suppress the concentration of estradiol in the body by 50%.

In summary, the drug produces several positive effects on the body, including:

  • Significant suppression of aromatization in the body, reducing it by 80% of the initial value.
  • A pronounced inhibitory effect on the aromatase enzyme.
  • Blocking estrogen concentration.
  • Rapid onset of action, with the highest concentration of the active agent observed 2 hours after intake, allowing for quick suppression of aromatization.

The aromatase inhibitor also helps prevent hypertension in athletes, a common occurrence during cycles of highly aromatizing steroids. Additionally, the natural production of testosterone sharply decreases during such cycles, leading to a decline in sexual desire and potential issues with sexual functions. Arimidex restores the normal concentration of endogenous male hormones in the body.

It's important to note that Arimidex is not considered an antiestrogen, as it does not effectively support the body's recovery after the use of anabolic-androgenic drugs during post-cycle therapy (PCT).

Anastrozole (Arimidex) Possible Side Effects

A moderate concentration of estrogen in the male body is advantageous for the overall well-being of athletes. Estrogen hormones enhance the sensitivity of androgen receptors, thereby increasing the effectiveness of steroid cycles. Additionally, these hormones exhibit anabolic and protective effects.

Excessive use of high doses of aromatase inhibitors can lead to undesirable side effects, including inhibited muscle growth, joint pain, reduced bone strength, decreased libido, overall decline in physical condition, low mood, and elevated cholesterol levels. Prolonged usage of Arimidex beyond recommended durations can result in significant hormonal imbalances, negatively impacting the athlete's overall health. In comparison to antiestrogens, Arimidex is generally better tolerated by the body, causing fewer severe side effects.

Anastrozole (Arimidex) Other Information

In sports, Arimidex serves two primary purposes, and the optimal dosage of the drug depends on these objectives:

  • Preventing Possible Gynecomastia and Aromatization Symptoms: Dosage: 0.5 mg of Arimidex every other day.
  • Eliminating Steroid-Related Adverse Reactions, Including Symptoms of Aromatization and Estrogen Reactions: Dosage: 1 mg of the active agent taken daily until symptoms disappear. Afterward, the dosage is reduced to the preventive minimum.

Maintaining a moderate level of female estrogen hormones in male bodies is beneficial for muscle growth. Therefore, preventive doses are recommended at a level that allows users to sustain the required concentration of estrogen for athletes. The usage of the aromatase inhibitor should not exceed 2 weeks, as this period is sufficient for the manifestation of all positive properties.

To facilitate quicker absorption into the bloodstream from the digestive tract, it is advisable to take the tablets on an empty stomach while drinking plenty of fluids. Female athletes are cautioned against using Anastrozole, as it can potentially induce serious hormonal imbalances, which are undesirable for the female body.
